by Anthony Robbins

Anthony Robbins’ Rapid Planning Method is a powerful system for achieving the goals that matter most to your life. R represents the results we’re after. Clarifying your results (or outcome) helps you focus on your desired target. Once you know the result you’ve committed to, you must know why you want it, and why you’re taking action.

In other words, you should know your P—your purpose. Having a sense of real purpose, like compelling reasons, will provide you with the drive necessary to make your desired result a reality. There is a major difference between simply having a dream, and having enough reasons to push yourself through the inevitable obstacles that will stand between you and your goals.

There are many ways to achieve a result or outcome, but you must know why you are going after it. This way, if your first plan or attempt fails, you will have the necessary drive to follow through and keep moving toward your ultimate vision.

Your purpose gives you the emotional reasons why you want to follow through and do whatever it takes to create the outcome you desire. Whereas an outcome (or result) produces focus, a purpose gives you drive. For example, it’s one thing to say, “I want to become a millionaire.” It’s another thing to say, “I want to become a millionaire because I will be able to help my children; make a difference in the world; develop the pride of knowing that I’ve overcome so many challenges; contribute to the homeless; and create many magical, fun moments for myself and those I love!”

When you fully feel why you are doing something, you will create the emotional excitement and “juice” that will give you the drive and momentum to create the result.

Your purpose is the compelling reasons why you want to do something—reasons that will give you the necessary drive to follow through on your plan.

QUESTIONS TO ASK:
1) Why do I want to do this?
2) What is my real purpose?
3) What will this give me?
4) How will it make me feel?

A friend of mine told me of a girl he knew who had been working with a coach. She only recently discovered what coaching is all about and was very inspired to notice how it was making a difference for her. She shared her enthusiasm about having a coach with some friends of hers. One of them who claimed to know about coaching apparently replied with a comment along the lines of: “Oh, it’s so commendable, dear, to hear you being honest and open about having a coach. Most people don’t want others to know when they are receiving help.” The girl was taken aback a bit by the remark and went back to my friend full of questions why someone would have such a perspective on coaching.

When I heard her story I felt rather saddened by this apparent misconception of what coaching is all about.
Coaching is not for “sick” people – it’s for healthy productive people who want more out of life. Coaching is for those who are good at what they do and who want to take it to the next level, to excel and land among the stars. Coaching is for the ambitious, the talented, and the achievers. Having a coach is in fact a sign of strength, wisdom, destination, and passion for excellence.

Timothy Gallwey, in the introduction to his masterpiece The Inner Game of Tennis points out:
Any pro knows, that it is easier to help a player who is on his game improve than it is to help one who considers he is playing poorly. (In China, people make regular visits to doctors when they are healthy. The doctor’s job is more to keep people healthy than it is to cure them of sickness. If a Chinese follows his doctor’s instructions and then gets sick, he is likely to change doctors.) Why not go to a tennis pro accepting your game as it is?

And here is what Robert Kiyosaki says about working with a coach, in his book Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant: Rich Dad’s Guide to Financial Freedom:
Rich Dad encouraged me to always have a coach or a mentor. He constantly said: Professionals have coaches. Amateurs do not
For example, I play golf and I take lessons, but I do not have a full time coach. This is probably why I pay money to play golf instead of getting paid to play. Yet, when it comes to the game of business and investing, I do have coaches, several of them. Why do I have coaches? I have coaches because I get paid to play those games.

So choose your mentors/coaches wisely. It is one of the most important things you can do.
Take a moment right now and take the following two steps:
• 1) Think: What is one goal you can set for yourself that if you achieved it you know would make the world of difference for you and take you to the next level, and therefore it’s time to take action on? Write it down.
• 2) Choose a coach. When are you going to contact him/her?

A proverb I heard the other day said: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is NOW”.
“Professionals have coaches. Amateurs do not.”
Remember Rich Dad’s words:
Be a professional. You deserve the best!
